Marvel online game dead?

I know we don't have the internet at home (YET!) let alone broadband, but we were hoping to have it before Christmas this year. Which would open us up to going online and playing games on the Wii...as well as computer games (NOT World of Warcraft, thankfully!).

I remember when I heard that Marvel were going to release an online game based on its characters in the vein of City of Heroes, I was really excited. Yes, even though I didn't have the internet. But then I read this article from Wizard Universe about the demise of the project:

MARVEL ONLINE GAME DEAD?
Online report says it’s ‘hit serious, potentially stalling, development troubles’

The Marvel Universe Online game—a joint venture between Marvel, Microsoft and Cryptic Studios—may be dead, a video game website is reporting.

According to 1Up.com, the website arm of Electronic Gaming Monthly, the previously announced Marvel Online game “has hit serious, potentially stalling, development troubles.”

Microsoft representatives refused to confirm that the game has been scrapped.

Marvel’s online game came into focus when NCSoft acquired City of Heroes from Cryptic Studios and in resulting interviews, no update or status report was provided on the superhero game.

Dang. Ah well, there's always the Wii to keep us entertained, not to mention our DSes!
