Sienna Miller has been announced as the first cast member to sign on for the live-action “G.I. Joe” film, according to Variety.
The British actress, who has appeared in “Factory Girl,” “Alfie” and the recent adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “Stardust,” has nabbed the role of the female lead, described as “a raven-haired baroness and sexy femme fatale skilled in espionage.” [EDITOR’S NOTE: Sounds like Destro’s main squeeze the Baroness (capital B) to us!]
“G.I. Joe” will be directed by Stephen Sommers and is slated to begin production in February with an eye towards a summer 2009 release. The Paramount film based on the popular toy line will focus on a European-based military unit known as Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity (G.I.J.O.E.), a high-tech, international force of special operatives that battles an evil organization led by a notorious arms dealer.
No other roles have been cast yet, but Mark Wahlberg and Sam Worthington have been rumored to be attached.
I can't see Sienna as the Baroness, personally. Something about her wearing spectacles and speaking with a thick British accent doesn't do it for me...well, when it comes to imaging the Baroness' accent anyway! Isn't the Baroness Eastern European anyway?
I hope they cast Thomas Jane ("Punisher") as Flint. He certainly looks the part!
And Ray Park (Darth Maul, Toad) would be awesome as Snake-Eyes. He doesn't even need to speak!
